Volunteer/Become a KVIS Member

You are warmly invited to volunteer and join the Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS)! Whether you live in Kenmore or simply care about our community, we welcome you with open arms. There are no dues, fees, or obligations-just an opportunity to make a meaningful difference alongside neighbors who share your passion for improving our village.

We believe every person brings unique skills, experiences, and perspectives that strengthen our efforts. From organizing community events to beautifying our neighborhoods, there are countless ways to contribute, and every effort-no matter how small-creates positive ripples throughout Kenmore.

We'd love to meet you at one of our Society meetings, where you can learn more about our ongoing projects and discover which committee might be the perfect fit for your interests and talents. Ready to get involved or have questions? Please don't hesitate to contact us-we're excited to hear from you and explore how we can work together to make Kenmore an even better place to call home.

Why become a KVIS volunteer?KVIS is primarily volunteer-driven - almost everything we do is done by residents and friends who freely give their time, talents, and skills to help make the Village of Kenmore the very best it can be. There are many ways to get involved, at every level of availability and experience.
Please choose the volunteering opportunities that interest you!

why kvis members volunteer

"I live here. Where I live matters, so I volunteer for KVIS."
“I’m a KVIS volunteer because how else, beside making my own home look good, can I directly help make Kenmore look better?”
“I love the people I meet that I wouldn’t have met otherwise!”
“My KVIS work is important, it makes me feel good.”
“I’ve lived other places and can tell you that we talk about important community things at KVIS meetings that I’ve never talked about with people other places I’ve lived.  I really value that.”
KVIS Welcomes All Volunteers
KVIS welcomes everyone who cares about Kenmore - regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, or background. Your perspective, your experience, and your particular way of seeing things are part of what this community is built from. Whatever you bring to KVIS will fit somewhere, and we'd love to have you.

Volunteer Hours & Internships
If you know a student or individual who needs volunteer hours, please send them our way. We're always in need of help with events, campaigns, and initiatives, and we're happy to sign student volunteer forms.
Internship opportunities are also available for students seeking hands-on nonprofit experience. Please contact us to discuss.
Personal Philanthropy and KVIS
Every May, KVIS celebrates the anniversary of our founding. At our 5th Anniversary Celebration in 2013, KVIS Founder and President Melissa Foster addressed the members and friends gathered that evening. An excerpt:
"The membership of KVIS has grown quickly -we now have close to one thousand members. It is the members of KVIS, from those who are most active to those who can't participate much but do their part, who have made this group what it is today.
When we think of philanthropists, we usually think of wealthy billionaires who form generous trusts like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. But today I am looking at a tent full of philanthropists - those who give of something much more dear than just money.
Your spirit of personal philanthropy - the gift you give of yourself, your talents and abilities, and so much more - is what has helped create a better today and a brighter future for those who come after us. Each of your efforts is part of your personal legacy of giving, and has become part of our community's legacy of giving.
Like a symphony of sound where one instrument joins another to create a work of beauty - so too have you created something moving, life-changing, and dynamic. Thank you."
Today, KVIS continues to grow. Our membership now numbers well over a thousand - residents of Kenmore, former residents, people who work in the village, and friends of the community from across Western New York and beyond.
KVIS Conduct Statement
As Kenmore Village Improvement Society Members we shall strive to improve the Kenmore Village by first treating each other with consideration and respect.  We shall strive to listen well to each other.  Even when we share differing points of view, we will value each others thoughts and opinions.

We shall be mindful of the fact that as humans, we are capable of great deeds which can truly make the world a better place.  This fact will lead us to positive action.

We shall be mindful of the knowledge that we are all different.  This knowledge will lead us to a compassionate and humorous view of one another.

We shall be mindful of the truth that this Society is greatly needed and may create a way for people here and across the nation to become positively invested in their communities.  This truth will give us vision.

We shall be mindful of the precious and precarious position of our Village.  This love and fear will inspire us to persevere in success and failure, adversity and comfort.
