Volunteer/Become a KVIS Member
You are warmly invited to volunteer and join the Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS)! Anyone living anywhere who cares about Kenmore is welcome to volunteer and become a member. There are no dues or fees or obligations associated with the group. Your skills, experience, point of view, and abilities are needed and welcome. There are many ways that you can help and will make a big positive impact on our community. Come to a Society meeting, consider joining a committee and see if you believe that you can help improve Kenmore through participating. Please contact us with any questions.
You can volunteer with the KVIS without being a member. Members are formal participants and have voting rights at KVIS meetings. Volunteers are informal participants that cannot vote at society meetings.

Why become a KVIS volunteer?
The KVIS doesn’t have employees—almost everything we do is done by volunteers, people like you, who freely give of their time, talents, and skills to help make the Village of Kenmore the very best it can be. There are many ways for you to support KVIS events, campaigns, and initiatives. Please choose the volunteering opportunities that interest you! |
why kvis members volunteer"I live here. Where I live matters, so I volunteer for KVIS." “I’m a KVIS volunteer because how else, beside making my own home look good, can I directly help make Kenmore look better?” “I love the people I meet that I wouldn’t have met otherwise!” “My KVIS work is important, it makes me feel good.” “I’ve lived other places and can tell you that we talk about important community things at KVIS meetings that I’ve never talked about with people other places I’ve lived. I really value that.” |
KVIS Welcomes All Volunteers
The KVIS welcomes all people to join in our work. We don’t care about the color of your skin or hair; we don’t care about your age or your sexual orientation; we don’t care about your religion or ethnic background. We do care and hope that you will choose to give some of your valuable time, your life’s energy, your talents, skills, and experience to our community by volunteering in some way for the KVIS. You are a part of what is imagined for the community we care so much about; your unique perspective is greatly needed and wanted.

Personal Philanthropy and KVIS
The KVIS Celebrates the anniversary of our founding in May of each year. At our 5th Anniversary Celebration (slide show below), KVIS President and Founder, Melissa Foster addressed those gathered that evening. Below is an except of that address:

"The membership of the KVIS has grown quickly–we now have close to one thousand members. It is the members of the KVIS, from those who are the most active to those who can’t participate much but do their part, it is the members who have made this group what it is today. When we think of philanthropists, we usually consider wealthy billionaires that form generous trusts like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, etc. But today I am looking at a tent full of philanthropists –those who give of something much more dear than just money. Your spirit of personal philanthropy –the gift you give of yourself, your talents and abilities, and so much more is what has helped to create a better today and a brighter future for those who come after us. Your generosity of spirit –each of your efforts have not only formed a part of your personal legacy of giving but have become a part of our community legacy of giving. Like a symphony of sound where one instrument joins another to create a work of beauty, so too have you created something moving, life changing, and dynamic. Thank you."
KVIS Conduct Statement
As Kenmore Village Improvement Society Members we shall strive to improve the Kenmore Village by first treating each other with consideration and respect. We shall strive to listen well to each other. Even when we share differing points of view, we will value each others thoughts and opinions.
We shall be mindful of the fact that as humans, we are capable of great deeds which can truly make the world a better place. This fact will lead us to positive action.
We shall be mindful of the knowledge that we are all different. This knowledge will lead us to a compassionate and humorous view of one another.
We shall be mindful of the truth that this Society is greatly needed and may create a way for people here and across the nation to become positively invested in their communities. This truth will give us vision.
We shall be mindful of the precious and precarious position of our Village. This love and fear will inspire us to persevere in success and failure, adversity and comfort.
