KVIS is Growing - searching for our first executive director

After 17 remarkable years powered entirely by volunteers, the Kenmore Village Improvement Society is taking an exciting step forward. We're currently searching for our first part-time Executive Director - a historic milestone made possible by the generous support of a KVIS member who believes in expanding our community impact. This new role represents growth, not change to our core identity. KVIS will always remain a volunteer-driven organization rooted in neighbor helping neighbor. Our Executive Director will work behind the scenes to:
  • Secure additional funding through donations and sponsorships
  • Build partnerships that amplify our community programs
  • Handle administrative coordination so volunteers can focus on direct community engagement
  • Support the signature events and initiatives you love
From the Children's Concert Series to the Gigantic Garage Sale, from Kenmore in Bloom to our Made for Good shop, the programs and events that define KVIS will continue to flourish. This new position simply gives us the capacity to reach more neighbors and create even greater impact. The volunteer spirit, community focus, and grassroots approach that have made KVIS a regional model for community building remain unchanged. We're building on 17 years of community trust while preparing for an even brighter future.
Over the next two years, our President/Founder and Board members will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure a smooth transition that preserves everything that makes KVIS special. This is our opportunity to grow our impact while staying true to the values and volunteer heart that define us. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey. Together, we'll continue building the kind of community we all want to call home for ourselves now and for those who come after us.
The job description is below. Questions about this exciting development? Contact us at [email protected]

Many of our concerns for our neck of the woods extends well beyond to the neck -concerns like the plight of pollinators and experiencing social isolation.  These affect those of us living in the Kenmore area, but also go well beyond our borders to the greater Western New York region.  We invite you to explore these websites for valuable information and inspiration.

Your donation to the KVIS

Your donation in any amount is greatly needed to help us continue our good work in the community.  The KVIS began in 2008, and since then KVIS members have generously given hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours to help make our community the very best it can be.  When you look at this website, you can see some of what we do each year, throughout the year.  We are kind and big-hearted people like you, who are willing to take of our time, talents, skills, and financial resources to thoughtfully help make our neck of the woods a better place for ourselves now and for those who come after us.  Just like running a home, it takes money for a non-profit to operate successfully.  Gifts from you and others like you, make the work you see here possible.  You can see more on some of our other websites like www.savethebeeswny.com and helpforloneliness.com.  The KVIS is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation.

More Female Bands Campaign

The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit group.  Each summer we present a free Children’s Concert Series.  We strive to provide interesting and varied music in each Series, ensuring that we have music from different eras, of different styles and ethnicities.  We also work to have as much gender balance as possible among the performers, showing the children that music making is for everyone.

This is where we have run into a problem -it is very challenging to achieve gender balance for the Concert Series because so many area bands are made up primarily of men.

We have launched a ‘More Female Bands’ campaign to encourage more girls and women to form and join a band.  The campaign features a contest that will take place next year around this time.  The contest will award cash prizes to the top three all-female bands and is open to all female bands playing any style of music with band members of any age.

How you can help:
  • Tell those you know about the campaign and do what is within your power to encourage women and girls to form or join a band.
  • Use the sign up form below to offer to help with the campaign.  There's a lot to do and it will be such rewarding working together on this.
  • Use the QR code to make a donation to this campaign.  All funds received will be added to the contest prize money.  Thank you!

Are You a Good Neighbor?
When the KVIS first started, we heard from many people who would sigh and say, "It seems like some people just don't know how to be a good neighbor."  We realized that there may be some truth to that statement sometimes.  So we set about finding out what the most common complaints are between neighbors and what makes for a really great neighbor.  We created our Good Neighbor Guide as a way to help us all know what the basic guidelines are for creating a fair and peaceful co-existence.  We also created the Good Neighbor Award to acknowledge and honor those whose goodness goes above and beyond.  Kenmore is filled with good neighbors, so most of us likely know of someone who is deserving of this Award.  Click below for the Good Neighbor Guide brochure and nomination form.
