Save the Bees WNY

save the bees & other pollinators

Pollinators - bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, hummingbirds - are responsible for roughly one in three bites of food we eat. And they are in trouble. Habitat loss, pesticide exposure, monoculture landscaping, and climate change have reduced pollinator populations dramatically over the last several decades. Western New York is not exempt from that decline.
Pollinator protection is one of KVIS's four ongoing program areas, and we've built a full companion website dedicated to the work: SaveTheBeesWNY.com.
What you'll find there
  • Pollinators — practical information about the species that need our help and what meaningfully supports them
  • Trees and Plants — guidance on native and pollinator-friendly plantings for homeowners, plus the chance to name your avenue tree (because when we name something, a relationship begins)
  • Ways to help — whether you're a renter with a window box, a homeowner with a full yard, a school planning a garden, or a business looking to contribute

Become a Bee Ambassador

You don't need special training to help pollinators. A few simple practices, done by enough neighbors across a single village, can meaningfully shift habitat availability. If you want to be part of that work, consider committing to these practices on your property:
  • Plant native, pollinator-friendly species when you can
  • Grow more garden and less lawn
  • Avoid harmful pesticides
  • Use grass seed to crowd out lawn weeds naturally
  • Provide pollinator habitat and fresh water
