The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) was very excited to bring Dog Days of Kenmore back this year, working to make it better than ever. However, we will not be able to have the event after all. This is due to circumstances beyond our control re. the village government vendor applications. It breaks the hearts of all of the KVIS volunteers involved in planning it, but we are left with no option. We have so many new and truly wonderful things planned as well as some favorites from the past, and we’re not going to let this planning and excitement go to waste. We will carry on and have the event next year either in May or in October. Please, will you help us choose -in which month would you rather participate in the event? Thanks for your help with this. Our plan has been, and will continue to be, to make this event so attractive and so meaningful and fun that everyone from all over WNY and Southern Canada will want to come. We will reach out to you and post here right away when we know the date for the event. Please make sure to let us know your choice of October or May. Also, if you haven't let us know you're interested in participating in the event, please use the form here to do so. I

Our modern American definition of family isn’t as narrowly defined as it was in the past and it is common for dogs and cats and other household friends to be considered a part of the family. One of the messages the KVIS strives to continually communicate is that Kenmore is a family friendly place and we plan events that help support this message like the Children’s Concert Series and the Dog Days of Kenmore.
The Dog Days of Kenmore event grew significantly each year, becoming Western New York's largest outdoor dog event with over 100 vendors, most area rescue groups, and features contests, live music, food trucks, parades, and much more. We decided to not have the event after the pandemic but we keep receiving so many requests to bring it back, that we finally decided that 2025 was the year! But this was not to be due to circumstances beyond our control. So we will take all the planning and excitement we had for the 2025 and carry it forward into next year when well have the best time ever. The KVIS is proud that we can throw this annual party for dogs and their people and hope that in doing so we will a deeper understanding of the plight of dogs while strengthening the special and heart warming bonds that exist between us all and human kind's best friend. Please visit the event Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DogDaysWNY.

The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness
Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness. Non-human animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, also possess these neurological substrates.

Friends
This is one our favorite photos from Dog Days of Kenmore. Our guest of honor that year was a small dog named Phoenix who had been burned so terribly by a cruel individual. Phoenix had finished having his photo taken with folks who had come to see him while Tank the Town of Tonawanda Canine Officer was taking some shady rest from his demonstrations. Phoenix walked over to Tank who looked at him as if to say "Hey Buddy" then Phoenix sat down next to him as if they had been friends forever. They had never met before. ...How blessed we are to have these canine friends in our lives and how fortunate we are to be able to advocate for them.
