June 25 - July 9, 2022

The purpose of Kenmore in Bloom is to help promote gardening and beautification in the front of homes, businesses, and institutions in Kenmore by recognizing and celebrating the efforts made to make each streetscape as lovely as possible. When the front of a home or business looks well cared for, then everyone benefits through higher property values and better quality of life. When Bloomed, each garden receives a lawn sign to let everyone know of the honor, and an invitation to the Bloom Breakfast. Each Village location is automatically entered to be bloomed; nothing is required to receive this award other than using plants to beautify the front area of your home, apartment, business, or church. The KVIS thanks everyone in Kenmore whose efforts have added to our community curb appeal by making the front of their property more gracious, tended, and colorful.
Each year we Bloom approximately 525 Village locations, homes, institutions and businesses. When Bloomed, each garden receives a small garden sign to let everyone know of the honor, and an invitation to the Bloom Breakfast where they can meet others who have been bloomed, share ideas, and enjoy the honor of being selected. We divide the Village into thirteen areas for Kenmore in Bloom. Each area or zone is viewed and the front gardens judged by several Bloom Scouts. The Bloom Scouts choose which gardens are Bloomed and also select one outstanding garden in their zone to receive the honor of being a Garden of Distinction.

People's Choice Award

The People’s Choice Award Bloom enables everyone who wasn't Bloomed by the Bloom Scouts to have their beautiful garden recognized.  Those wishing to receive a People's Choice Bloom should post a photo of the front of their house on the KVIS main facebook page at facebook.com/kenmorevillage. This may only be done from July 10-15; this is after the Bloom Scouts make their choices but before the Bloom Breakfast.  A People's Choice Award Bloom sign is available for $5 each. A limited number of signs are available on a first come basis. Contact the KVIS to get your sign.  mail@villageofkenmore.com or 716.877.0477

The Bloom Breakfast
Each place that is Bloomed receives a note of congratulations and an invitation to attend the Bloom Breakfast.  The Bloom Breakfast is a joyous time which allows the KVIS the opportunity to thank those Bloomed for their dedication in helping make Kenmore look as appealing as possible.  The Garden of Distinction awards and gifts are also given at the Breakfast and the Bloom Scouts thanked.
“It’s an honor and delight to have had my garden Bloomed. To have it named a Garden of Distinction is an unexpected treat! Thank you for awarding me this.  Thank you, too for recognizing the power of beautiful gardens.  They heal and soothe those who pass by. Gardeners will almost always tell you that gardening is a labor of love and they make their caretakers stay fit and mentally healthy!  Bless you for your commitment to Kenmore.”  -Jeanne Bowman

Congratulations to this Year's
Gardens of Distinction Winners!

 Zone 1: 52 Keller Avenue
This beautiful garden is eye catching without over powering. The subtly varied plants perfectly frame the house and well groomed yard. Lilies and hydrangeas are the show stoppers now while low annuals provide a pop of color on the ground. A rose bush lies in wait for its turn to burst into bloom. The variation of plants and color offers one a delightful aesthetic that provides a feeling of a warm home with something quite special.
 Zone 2: 406 Wabash Avenue
This garden richly deserves the Garden of Distinction designation. The garden is an English garden style and the gardener comes from a long line of gardeners. The variety of flowers is impressive with many roses, petunias, day lilies, dahlias, lavender, mari-golds, cone flowers, clematis, and rudbeckia. The garden clearly shows a love of garden and growing things that is so enthusiastic that any one passing is likely to stop to take in the beauty.
 Zone 3: 428 Kinsey Avenue
This Kenmore garden really makes the most of a small space. It contains a variety of lush green trees, bushes, flowering and non-flowering plants -all following the same cohesive color scheme. The ground level landscaping includes several flower beds bor-dered by rocks, containing a butterfly bush, red and pink cone flowers, and a large window box full of red and yellow flowers in full bloom. The most unique aspect of this garden is the potted garden on the 2nd story. There are a variety of plants flourishing in pots including large green elephant ears, mandevillas, and dahlias, The time and care that goes into creating and maintaining this beautiful space is evident.
 Zone 4: 92 Lasalle Avenue
This lovely corner lot is graced with plants throughout. Differing heights, colors, textures, ground treatments, and bloom times have been artfully planned for maximum interest. Various borders have been used to create individual mini beds, some bedded with mulch, some with rocks, some with moss, all coming together to form a cohesive garden plot. From stunning tall red cone-flower to wispy Russian sage, there’s so much to see, and variety is key to this garden’s appeal.
 Zone 5: 82 Wabash Avenue
The profusion and variety of blooms at this address make it a standout garden in the neighborhood. It is eye-catching because the red geraniums and yellow cone flowers contrast with the royal blue fencing and trellis. On closer inspection you can also find lav-ender, bee balm, phlox, ferns, million bells, hydrangea, and more. It is truly a pollinator’s paradise. There is also a water feature with its own resident turtle, name Roman! This garden has it all and is worth a visit!
 Zone 6: 86 Kinsey Avenue
The garden at this address is very well maintained, making the home look outstanding! The garden has brought together a variety of flowers whose colors blend together into a beautiful picture from any angle. The garden has clearly been carefully designed to compliment the beautiful architecture of the home.
Zone 7: 176 North End Avenue
This garden prompts you to take a closer look. It looks like a charming Bed and Breakfast! The cottage feel was so welcoming and the display so colorful from the dainty light pink to the lush lime green. Stone and metal work gives each section of the garden its own character while container flowers guide the way to the front door. Finally, the house has a little free library!
 Zone 8: 215 Parkwood Avenue
Welcoming you to the neighborhood, this charming corner lot is a study in color and texture. A curved pathway invite you for a stroll among its well-manicured plants. The garden features a variety of plants, all nestled inside a classically styled scalloped picket fence.
Zone 9: 281 Warren Avenue
This garden sits in front of a north facing house with a tree on the verge. The abundance of shade and tree roots has not deterred the homeowner from planting an array of colorful annuals along with hosta and coral bells across the front of the home. Impati-ens and petunias in shades of pink, purple, and white are planted in the ground and arranged in flower towers and hanging bas-kets. This garden is a delight to see!
Zone 10: 37 Nassau Avenue
This home has a variety of plants and flowers that are well organized and incorporated throughout the garden area. The garden harkens for those passing by to stop and take in the varied beauty. This garden really stood out from the others.
Zone 11: 80 Enola Avenue
The garden at this house is clearly loved with the gardeners doing a great job of planting a wide variety of flowers. This garden is large, encompassing the majority of the front of the house. The garden is well cared for and a joy to see.
Zone 12: 342 Knowlton Avenue
This home has all of the best traits of a classic Kenmore garden: charm, character, and lots of flowers! The planters and baskets are colorful with interesting combinations of flowers. They hang from the beautiful front porch and the upstairs windows, which means there are flowers everywhere you look. The combination of yellow shrubs and pink annuals in the front bed create contrast and are very eye-catching from the street.
Zone 13: 348 Argonne Drive
This garden is immediately striking for its sense of balance, and how it matches the symmetry of the house itself, flowing directly from the front porch. On the outside left and right there are two small trees. Inside those are two huge hydrangeas with amazing white blooms. Geraniums surround a small boxwood that draws the eye to the center of the garden, carrying down directly from the chimney and awning. A very well thought out design at this lovely home.
