KVIS Groups (aka:Committees)

The groups of KVIS are where the heart of this organization beats. They determine, plan, and carry out the work of the society - and they are made up entirely of people who simply decided to show up.

You don’t need a particular background, a specific skill set, or years of experience in Kenmore. You need only an interest and a willingness. Every group welcomes newcomers warmly, and there is no wrong time to join. Whether you have a little time to give or are looking to be more deeply involved, there’s a place for you here.

If something in these descriptions stirs something in you - curiosity, recognition, or a quiet “that’s mine” - trust that. You can fill out the form on this page, reach us at [email protected], or call 716.877.0477. We’ll take it from there.

The only requirement is caring about community. If you’re reading this, you probably already do.

NEIGHBORS
Building connection, belonging, and care - one street, one person at a time.

Some of the best things in life happen just outside your front door - a conversation across the fence, a wave from the porch, the comfort of knowing someone nearby has your back. The Neighbors group is built on the belief that a strong village is made one block at a time, one person at a time.

This is the group that makes sure no one on your street feels invisible - and no one who walks through our doors feels like a stranger. We welcome newcomers, celebrate good neighbors, and create the kind of warmth that turns a place you live into a place that feels like home.

What this group does:
- Welcomes new neighbors to the community
- Supports village-wide traditions like the Gigantic Kenmore Garage Sale
- Leads outreach efforts like Valentines for seniors
- Promotes the Good Neighbor Guide and coordinates the Good Neighbor Award, encouraging everyday courtesies and recognizing those who live them out
- Helps create a welcoming environment at KVIS gatherings - from refreshments to friendly faces who greet and connect
- Organizes block meetups and informal opportunities for connection
-Facilitates Onesies for Newborns initiative

EVENTS
Creating experiences that bring people together.

There's something that happens when a community gathers - something that can't quite be explained but is immediately felt. A shared laugh, a child's face lit up with wonder, neighbors who almost never cross paths suddenly standing side by side. The Events group makes those moments happen in Kenmore.

Each event begins with intention - a question, a need, or something we hope to strengthen in our community. Whether it’s introducing children and families to a wide range of music and cultures, deepening the human-canine bond, or creating space for neighbors to simply spend time together, our events are designed to offer something meaningful beneath the surface.

From the Children's Concert Series to Kenmore in Bloom, from Dog Days of Kenmore to the warm and welcoming gatherings at our space at 7 Warren Avenue - Poetry Open Mics, book club, cake and cookie decorating, and more - this group brings people together throughout the year. These aren't just happenings on a calendar. They are the memories people carry, the reasons people stay, and the stories they tell about why Kenmore is different.

What this group does:
- Plans and supports KVIS events throughout the year
- Helps organize signature events like the Children’s Concert Series, Kenmore in Bloom, and Dog Days of Kenmore
- Supports smaller gatherings at 7 Warren Avenue, including Poetry Open Mic Nights, book club, and other community activities
- Assists with event setup, coordination, and day-of logistics
- Welcomes and engages attendees to help create a positive, inclusive atmosphere
- Contributes ideas for new events and experiences
- Works behind the scenes to make each event run smoothly from start to finish

BE WELL
Supporting connection, care, and wellbeing across our community.

Loneliness is one of the quietest and most serious challenges of our time - and Kenmore is choosing to do something about it. The Be Well group brings together people who care deeply about the health of a community in the fullest sense: not just physical, but social and emotional as well.

Through our HelpForLoneliness.com initiative, community workshops, and outreach that brings conversation and connection to those who need it most, this group focuses on work that is both thoughtful and deeply human. Not the kind that makes a splash and disappears - the kind that quietly strengthens lives and the fabric of a community over time.

What this group does:
- Supports initiatives like HelpForLoneliness.com
- Contributes ideas and approaches that support social connection and physical, emotional wellbeing
- Helps plan and participate in community workshops and outreach efforts
- Engages with individuals in ways that foster connection and reduce isolation
- Works on initiatives that address loneliness and strengthen community care
-Supports physical and whole person well-being and stress reduction

PUBLIC PROPERTIES
Caring for the shared spaces that shape how our community looks and feels.

The green spaces of Kenmore don’t tend themselves. Behind every blooming corner and beautifully kept space is a group of people who noticed, cared, and showed up. That’s this group.

From the Green Thumb Helpers who plant and lovingly tend the point gardens at the village green and the library garden, to the seasonal decorations that mark the turning of the year across Kenmore, to our SaveTheBeesWNY initiative supporting the pollinators that keep our natural world alive - this group works in ways that are both visible and lasting.

Residents, visitors, and anyone passing through experience this work every day. It reflects a shared belief that the spaces we all use should be cared for with attention and pride — and that even small moments of beauty can make a meaningful difference.

What this group does:
- Plants and maintains gardens and green spaces throughout the village
- Leads initiatives like Green Thumb Helpers and SaveTheBeesWNY
- Plans and creates seasonal decorating and beautification efforts
- Participates in hands-on projects that improve shared public spaces
- Helps keep Kenmore welcoming, vibrant, and well cared for

BUSINESS
Supporting a thriving, connected, and distinctive local business community.

A thriving village street isn't an accident. It's the result of people who care deeply about where they live deciding to invest in the businesses around them - and in the relationships that make those businesses flourish. The Business group is where that work happens.

We build bridges between Kenmore's business owners, commercial property owners, and the residents who want to see them succeed. We shine a light on what's already wonderful here, work to attract new businesses that fit our community's character, and create conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen.

We also work in support of and alongside the Kenmore Business Association and the Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce - because a strong business district takes a whole community pulling in the same direction.

What this group does:
- Builds relationships with local business and property owners
- Helps highlight and promote local businesses
- Contributes to efforts that attract and retain businesses that fit Kenmore’s character
- Leads initiatives like the Kenmore Bricks & Mortar Group, helping business owners strengthen operations, share knowledge, and navigate real-world challenges together
- Supports and collaborates with the Kenmore Business Association and Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce
- Encourages community support of local businesses

HISTORIC KENMORE
Preserving and sharing the stories that shape our village.

Every community has a story. Kenmore's is one worth knowing, worth sharing, and worth keeping alive - and this group is devoted to exactly that.

From republishing a beloved book about Kenmore's history to bringing commemorative plaques to homes that have graced this village for over a century, Historic Kenmore does the careful, ongoing work of preservation. It’s the active belief that knowing where you come from deepens your connection to where you are - and helps shape where you’re going.

What this group does:
- Researches and shares stories from Kenmore’s past
- Supports projects like historical publications and commemorative plaques
- Helps preserve and document the history of homes, places, and people in the village
- Contributes to efforts that make local history visible and accessible to the community
- Participates in initiatives that connect past and present in meaningful ways
